Book Culture + 4×4 : Refelctions on the Open Mic Night

Yet another success, this time with Columbia’s 4×4 Literary Magazine as our partners. 4×4 was represented by the host for the evening, who did a wonderful job keeping our readers on track and on time without once stepping on toes. An accomplishment in itself.

We were amazed to see the streams of people coming up the steps as seven o’clock drew nearer. There was truly a packed house; we counted around 65 people in the audience at one time. Included in the audience, we had around 24 different readers present work; some poetry, essays, performance, as well as reading other author’s published works. There was an amazing texture in the voices we had for the night. Every reader captured the audience with their individuality and unique perspective. There were a few readers who have been present for the past readings, and once again stunned everyone with their humor and tenderness. Every word from those who read was powerful, moving and enlightening for the audience. And, as always, Book Culture provided a great spread of food and wine which made the space welcoming for the readers and watchers. We invite everyone interested to continue to check our blog and website to find out when the next readings are coming up.

On behalf of the Book Culture family, we would like to thank everyone who showed up, everyone who read, and the members of Columbia 4×4 Magazine for helping to make this reading fun. I can safely say that this was our best turnout, and we got the warmest response from everyone who spoke with us after the event. We are so happy to bring a community of creators together to share a space and engage with literature hands on. We very much hope to see and hear you again soon.
