Too Busy to Blog

The Book Culture blog has been super silent this fall – blame it on all the store events we’ve been having, leaving the events manager little time to keep up with our Author Q&A’s or uploading event photos. The latter has finally been done, so be sure to check out our Flickr page to see a visual recap of the past two months.

Here are a few highlights:

But there are a ton of photos on Flickr, so be sure to check them out. We are still adding author names and details about the diverse events we held during October and November.

We only have a few author events scheduled for early December, listed here.

And save the date: our December sale will run from Fri. Dec. 12 – Sun., Dec. 14.

More after the Thanksgiving holiday. Happy Turkey!

And thanks for your support of our store!

The Bookmaker: Special Event at Pisticci Restaurant

Since we are unable to host author events in the store during the coursebook rush, we will sometimes partner with a neighborhood business to serve as a venue for literary events. We’ll be doing this next Tuesday, August 26 at 7 pm, when we host An Evening with Michael J. Agovino at Pisticci Restaurant.

Agovino is the author of The Bookmaker: A Memoir of Money, Luck and Family From the Utopian Outskirts of New York City.

“Agovino’s debut investigates how people are shaped by the places they inhabit…Agovino’s history is rich with the mythology of immigrant strivers, but with its own series of twists linked to his erudite, proud, and reckless father. The book also offers a unique portrait of the mutability of class…[H]e strikes a nice balance between the histories of a beloved place and a turbulent family. A generally engrossing narrative of class and mobility in urban America.” — Kirkus Reviews

Learn more about the book here and read an excerpt here.

Pisticci is located at 125 La Salle Street (Between Broadway & Claremont.) The closest subway stop is the 1 to 125th Street. Las Salle is two blocks south of 125th.
